Explosion of Happiness 010 Industry Nemesis

12/12/2015 - December downer mode continues with Andrew being sick and Ryan continuing to hit the bottle.  A light pierces the darkness with System Shock 3 being teased.  Skullgirls is the latest video game victim of censorship, by the developers themselves no less.  The game nuts talk about the absurd labyrinth that is console UI's now.  Valve going to the dark side continues to be a fear in the back of our minds.  VR on PS4.  Blizzard's acting shady about Overwatch.  Thoughts on XP treadmills in FPS.  Where's the eSports circlejerk leading competitive gaming as a whole?  Final Fantasy VII Remake is being sliced up.  Also related to Final Fantasy; if you're a fan, you'll probably pissed about the FFVI Steam release.  In prep for the Star Wars Audio Feature the game nuts make film predictions.

December Difficulties

The final month of the year is an extremely hectic time for us due to work.  If the reality is that we can't line up our schedules to produce a recording then I'll make a blog post like this.  I view infrequent content updates to be the kryptonite of podcasts, so I won't do it unless there are no other options.

Once January rolls around everything should be back to normal.  Until then, expect late releases and shorter run times.  Next year we will plan ahead for this problem.

UPDATE 12/6/2015:  Podcast was recorded today, but due to technical difficulties it may not be up until later this week.

Explosion of Happiness 007 Old Generations

11/18/2015 - What makes a good open world game?  What happened to pre-NES generation video game fans?  What happened to mid-level game developers?  Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is delayed.  More grumbling about Blizzard's creative direction.  E-sports are weird.  Micro-transactions now in MGSV.  Star Wars Battlefront is a fart.  Andrew mourns Final Fantasy XI.  Final Fantasy VII's Cloud coming to Super Smash Bros for WiiU & 3DS.  Gameplay > Pre-Rendered trailers.  Linkle is real, and so is the imminent tidal wave of rule 34.  Music at 1:00:50 "My Heart will Go On" by Matt Mulholland.

Explosion of Happiness 005 The Final Hype Frontier

11/05/2015 - The internet has exploded into a Fallout 4 love/hate fest, but what are the actual reasons to look forward or not look forward to the game?  Konami isn't going to leave Metal Gear alone, nor are they going to leave Contra alone for that matter.  The Wii U has finally outsold the Dreamcast.  Blizzard's modernizing their old titles (whatever that means).  Ryan tells his tragic tale of Star Trek Online. More censorship from Nintendo in Xenoblade Chronicals X.  Black Ops 3 has more mod support and features in the pipeline than Doom.  Let that sink in.

Introducing "Audio Features"

Later this week we'll be premiering the first two Explosion of Happiness Audio Features on the feed.  These will be special recordings dedicated to a single subject such as a new video game release or a retrospective of an old video game.  The first feature will be dedicated to Metal Gear Solid V:  The Phantom Pain (better late than never), and the second feature will be dedicated to SOMA.

These features are meant to be listened to after completion of the game yourself, as they will be totally spoiler-filled.  As of now the goal is to put out one of these features a month as companion episodes to the main weekly podcast, however they will be produced less regularly.

Checking in

Yep it's still happening.  Andrew and I have been warming up with test podcasts.  Getting used to the recording and editing process, learning about audio equipment, improving charisma and yada yada.  I'm gunning to release our first official podcast soon, next Monday if all goes well, but that's no guarantee.  It's a matter of how good our content quality is by then.  We're now up on iTunes and YouTube, all subscriby ready and whatnot.
